I'd like to extend my congratulations to Paul Gardner for his victory in our contest for State Legislature. In spite of our differences, I found him to be a cordial gentleman in all of our encounters. I wish him success in representing the people of our district during the upcoming legislative session.
I would also like to express publicly the gratitude I feel for the scores of volunteers and contributors who participated with me in our campaign. Many of them I had not met before the campaign began. Many of them will be my friends for life. They spent countless hours in the routine tasks that make up a campaign, frequently making deep sacrifices of their precious time and resources to this effort. Thanks to all of them.
Our campaigners did not take part in this effort to fulfill their own ambitions or mine. They did so out of care and concern for our state and nation. They know that our country has prospered because it has limited its government and guarded its liberties. They know that this is not the time to be growing the state with more power, higher spending, and increasing taxes. They know that the values of the family are worth protecting.
The efforts of those who hold these values and principles will not end with this election. We will hold our elected officials accountable. We will call for more responsibility in government. And because of our cares and concerns, we will look forward eagerly to our next opportunities to shape the future of our state and nation.
